Jewellery Care tips

General

While your jewellery is made from materials that are very durable, contact with chemicals and other surfaces can still cause damage. Please treat your jewellery with care and avoid harsh treatment.

  • Avoid contact with chemicals and lotions, including makeup, perfume and hairspray (can discolour metals and damage gemstones)

  • Remove before swimming, showering or cleaning due to chemical contact

  • Remove before hitting the gym or gardening to avoid damage from exercise equipment or physical activities

  • Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth after cleaning or exposure to water

  • Keep jewellery stored in the box or pouch it came with, or in a jewellery box away from humidity and free flowing air to avoid/slow down tarnishing

For gemstone jewellery

  • Don’t store in full sunlight (can fade or damage some gemstones)

  • Avoid excessive heat and sudden temperature changes

  • Don’t wear when undertaking manual labour, to avoid damaging/chipping the stones

How to clean your jewellery

  • Clean with warm water, mild dish soap and a soft brush (don’t use soap with moisturiser or harsh chemicals included)

  • Rinse in a glass of water to avoid losing anything down the sink

  • To bring a bit of shine back to a polished piece, use an impregnated silver polishing cloth (most of my pieces have a bright brushed finish rather than a high polish, if you'd like to refresh this on your piece rather than using a polishing cloth, I use a jeweller’s soft brass wire brush to achieve this texture).

Beaded jewellery care

The beaded bracelets are made with stretch elastic and the knots secured with glue to give them longevity. Most beaded necklaces are made with jeweller's silk unless the description says otherwise.

To keep your beaded jewellery in good condition, please avoid:

  • Over-stretching the elastic or flinging it around like a hair tie (as a fidgeter this one is hard to stick to!).

  • Stretching the necklace and tugging on it roughly.

  • Submerging in water or chemicals, especially lotions/perfumes/soaps/hand sanitiser etc. exposure to these will wear down the elastic cord/silk thread and cause it to lose its stretch (if your bracelet needs cleaning, you can gently clean it with warm water and dry with a soft cloth, but avoid completely submerging it for too long and using harsh soaps).

  • Wearing your beaded jewellery while engaging in manual labour or exercising etc, any activity that puts the beads at risk of harsh contact with other surfaces or getting caught on clothing. excessive contact with sweat can also cause the silk thread to lose strength and fray.

  • From experience I can say that wearing your beaded jewellery while working in a shearing shed is not a good idea, constant contact with the sweat and lanolin can damage the silk thread.
